Rahab

If you read Jesus’ family history in the first chapter of Matthew, you will notice the name of Rahab. It may seem strange that this woman is listed in Jesus’ family line.

We learn about Rahab in Joshua, chapter 2. Joshua sent spies to look at the city of Jericho. Joshua 2:1b tells us that “the men went to the city of Jericho and stayed at the house of a prostitute named Rahab.” Rahab was not an Israelite, but she believed in God. In our Bible Reading, Rahab told the spies, “the Lord your God rules the heavens above and the earth below” (verse 11b).

Rahab hid the spies and kept them safe. Later, when God destroyed the city of Jericho, Rahab and her family were taken away from the city and allowed to live among the Israelites.

No matter what we have done in our lives, God can still use us for His glory. We just need to depend on Him and faithfully obey Him.
