Our Christmas word for today is registration. Verse 1 of our Bible Reading says, “At that time, Augustus Caesar sent out an order to all people in the countries that were under Roman rule. The order said that all people must write their name in a book (register).”
Joseph and Mary were married, and it was almost time for her baby to be born. But because Joseph’s family was from the town of Bethlehem, he and Mary had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the registration. While they were in Bethlehem, baby Jesus was born. This was all part of God’s plan to bring salvation to His people.
Many years before Jesus was born, the Old Testament prophet, Micah, said that God’s Son would be born in Bethlehem. Micah 5:2 says, “But you Bethlehem Ephrathah, are the smallest town in Judah. Your family is almost too small to count. But the ‘Ruler of Israel’ will come from you for me.” This prophecy came true when Jesus was born.
God’s special plan of salvation is for you, too. Obey Him today.
