Sometimes we feel sad. We may be sad because a friend died, or because we are sick or lost our job. Some people want to be happy all the time. But sadness is a part of life. Proverbs 15:13 says, “If a person is happy, his face will show joy. But if a person is sad in his heart, then his spirit will show sadness.”
Our Bible Reading today is about a man named Lazarus. Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha, were Jesus’ friends. Lazarus became sick and died. When Jesus arrived at their home, Lazarus had been dead for four days. Jesus saw that Mary and Martha were sad. Jesus was sad, too. Verse 35 says, “Jesus cried.” Then Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Jesus changed their sadness into joy!
It is okay to be sad sometimes. Often at a funeral we are happy that our friend or relative is with God. But we are still sad. Why? Because we will miss seeing that person. The book of Revelation tells us that there will be no crying in heaven. Here on earth, there will be sadness and tears. But in heaven, we will only experience happiness.
