Serving Others

Our Bible Reading tells us about the time when James and John came to Jesus. They thought that Jesus would set up a kingdom on earth. So they asked Jesus to give them honor and positions of power. James and John wanted to have important places in Jesus’ kingdom.

Jesus answered, “…it is not for me to say who will sit at my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he chooses” (verse 40). Then Jesus went on to explain that they should not want power and honor. Instead, they should be a servant like Him.

Jesus is the Son of God. He has all authority and power on earth. Jesus has the right to tell people to serve Him. But Jesus is humble and wants to serve other people. And He wants us to follow His example.

Think about Jesus’ life and how He served people. Be humble like Him and look for ways to serve others.
