Serving Others

Our Bible Reading today tells us about a time when Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. Today most people wear shoes and have clean feet. But when Jesus lived on earth, most people wore sandals and walked on dusty roads. So probably their feet were very dirty. Jesus was truly a servant when He washed the disciples’ feet.
One time I decided I would try to serve other people. I got a bowl of water and a sponge. Then I went to people who lived near me. I offered to wash their feet.
Maybe you think this is a simple thing to do. But I am in a wheelchair all day. It was difficult for me to reach down and wash people’s feet. But it was a wonderful experience for me. I understand how Jesus must have felt when He washed the disciples’ feet.
God wants us to serve each other. We don’t have to wash feet. We can baby-sit for a young mother. We can prepare a meal for a sick person. And we can share the Good News about Jesus with people who do not know Him.
