Seven Churches (7)

Today we will talk about Jesus’ message to the Christians in Sardis. This city was 30 miles southeast of Thyatira. Many people there worshiped the goddess Artemis. Sardis was famous for its art and the making of gold and silver coins.
Some people call Sardis the “dead church.” Why? Because Jesus said to these Christians, “…you are alive, but really you are dead” (verse 2a). Jesus encouraged the people in this church to change their hearts and lives. If these people would not change, Jesus said, “I will come to you and surprise you like a thief. You will not know when I will come” (verse 3b).
Jesus has told us that He will come back someday and take His followers to live with Him forever. We don’t know when Jesus will come. We are still waiting for Him. But we need to always be ready for Jesus to return. I hope you are ready!
