Shepherds were in a field outside the town of Bethlehem. The shepherds had to stay with their sheep to keep the flock together. Probably the shepherds took turns staying awake during the night.
Our Bible Reading tells us that an angel appeared to the shepherds. The shepherds were afraid! The angel told them the news that Jesus had been born in Bethlehem. The shepherds hurried to find the baby. After they saw baby Jesus, they “told what the angels said about this child” (verse 17b).
We should be like the shepherds. They were excited to learn about Jesus. We should be excited to read the Bible and learn about Jesus, too. The shepherds told other people about Jesus. They were the first preachers of the Good News about Jesus! We should share this news about Jesus with other people.
This Christmas season is a wonderful time to tell the world about the real meaning of Jesus’ birth.
