Moses led the Israelites from Mount Hor and around the country of Edom. The people became impatient. They did not like the food that God was providing for them.
So God sent poisonous snakes to bite the people. Many Israelites died from the snake bites. The people realized that they had sinned. They said to Moses, “We know that we sinned when we spoke against the Lord and you. Pray to the Lord. Ask him to take away these snakes” (verse 7b). So Moses prayed to God.
God told Moses to make a bronze snake and put it on a pole. Any person who had been bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake. Then that person would not die. God did not want the people to worship the snake. He wanted them to remember that they should only worship and serve Him.
God provided a way to save the Israelites that were bitten by the snakes. And God has provided a way for you to have your sins forgiven. That way is through His Son, Jesus, who died on the cross. God wants you to obey Jesus today.
