Son of Man

Jesus’ favorite name for Himself was Son of Man. He used it 78 times in the New Testament books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Son of Man is also used many times in the Old Testament. In many of these verses, son of man means a human being. But in Daniel 7:13-14, these words describe the Messiah (Jesus). Jesus quoted this prophecy from Daniel in His teachings (Matthew 24:30, 25:31).
Why did Jesus call Himself Son of Man? Maybe He was showing people that He was their representative before God. Or, as our Bible Reading today shows us, Jesus may have used this title so that people would know that He came to earth to be a servant.
We may not understand why Jesus used this title, but this name helps us remember that Jesus came to earth and lived as a man. Why? So He could bring people to the right relationship with God.
