Spiritual Garden (4)

A farmer plants the seeds and a crop begins to grow. But there is still work to do. Part of that work is cultivation. To cultivate means to break up the soil around the plants in order to get rid of weeds and help the plants grow. The farmer must make sure that weeds do not grow and kill the new plants. It is a constant battle to keep weeds under control.

Spiritual weeds in our lives can keep us from growing in Christ. Our Bible Reading today lists three weeds that can keep us from doing good things for God. The first weed is worry. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to give our worries to God. The second weed is wealth. Matthew 6:24 reminds us that we cannot serve both God and money. The third weed is wanting to do bad things in the world. Colossians 3:5 tells us to get rid of the evil things in our lives.

Look at your life today. Make sure these weeds are not keeping God’s Word from growing in your life.
