Our Bible Reading today tells us about Simeon. “He was a good man that truly worshiped God” (verse 25b). God’s Holy Spirit told Simeon “that he would not die before he saw the Christ from the Lord (God)” (verse 26b).
One day the Holy Spirit led Simeon to the temple in Jerusalem. That was the day that Joseph and Mary brought baby Jesus to the temple. Verse 28a says, “Simeon held the baby in his arms and thanked God.” Why did Simeon thank God? Because Simeon knew God had sent Jesus to save people from their sins.
God sent Jesus to earth at just the right time. Jesus’ purpose on earth was to teach people about God and then die and rise again. Jesus died to accept the punishment for your sins and my sins. Without Jesus’ death, we would have to face eternal punishment. But praise God! If we accept Jesus’ gift of salvation, we can live forever with Him.
Simeon thanked God for Jesus. We should thank God for His Son, too. Thank God for His wonderful plan for your life today.
