The Helper*

Before Jesus left earth to go back to heaven, He promised His followers that He would give them a Helper (John 14:16). Jesus repeated this promise several times before His death, burial and resurrection.
Jesus’ followers loved Him very much. When He died, they were filled with sorrow. After Jesus arose and returned to heaven, He sent the Helper to help His followers. This Helper is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit continued to be with Jesus’ followers and help them teach about Jesus.
Acts chapter 2 tells us that the Holy Spirit came with power on the Day of Pentecost (a Jewish day of celebration). Today, almost 2000 years later, the Holy Spirit is still with us. He comforts us, leads us, helps us and strengthens us.
At this time of year, we are especially thankful that Jesus came to the earth. We should also be thankful that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be our helper.
