The Horn

Zechariah was the father of John the Baptizer. After John was born, Zechariah praised God and told about some things that would happen in the future. We can read Zechariah’s words in our Bible Reading today.
In verse 69, Zechariah said, “God has given us a powerful Savior from the family of God’s servant, David.” Some Bible translations say “horn of our salvation” instead of “powerful servant.” What does this mean?
In the Old Testament, the horn was a symbol of great power. Powerful kings and rulers were sometimes called a “horn.” Animal horns were an example of strength and power. That is why a horn became a symbol of a king’s power.
Jesus is our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. No one is more powerful than Jesus. He is truly our “horn of salvation.” Jesus is the One who has the power to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. Have you accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation? If not, do it today!
