The Spirit of God

There are many verses in the New Testament that teach us about the Holy Spirit. Luke 12:12 and Mark 13:11 teach us that when people persecute (do bad things to) us, the Spirit will give us words to say. Then we can be witnesses for Christ. Acts 2:38 teaches that when we accept Jesus as our Savior, we receive the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-25 talks about the signs that show that someone has received the Spirit. And there are many, many other verses about the Holy Spirit. But there are also many passages in the Old Testament that talk about the Holy Spirit.
After Jesus was crucified and raised again, God began giving His Spirit to live in people who believe in Jesus. The Holy Spirit is our comforter and guide. He helps us live the way God wants us to live.
Before Jesus’ sacrifice, the Holy Spirit did not live within God’s people the same way…but His work was still the same. In this series of devotions, we will look at some verses from the Old Testament that talk about the Holy Spirit. And we will see how He worked in the time before Jesus started the church.
