Timothy

Timothy’s mother, Eunice, and grandmother, Lois, believed in God. They taught Timothy about having faith in God (2 Timothy 1:5). Many people believe that Paul taught Timothy about Jesus while he was on his first mission trip. While Paul was traveling on his second mission trip, he chose Timothy to work with him. Hebrews 13:23 tells us that Timothy was put in prison because he followed Jesus.
Paul left Timothy in the church at Ephesus to help the Christians solve some problems. One problem was that the Jews were teaching wrong things. The other problem was about leadership of the church. Paul wrote this letter to Timothy to give him help in solving these problems.
Chapter 2 of 1 Timothy gives some rules about men and women. Chapter 2 lists qualifications for leaders in the church. These rules are still used in churches today.
An important verse to remember from 1 Timothy is 1:15b: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” This means that Jesus came to save you and me. Praise God for this gift of salvation through Jesus.
