Many things we do in life require training. Our parents train us to walk and learn other skills when we are young. As adults we receive training in college or on the job.
When talking about training, many people think about the physical training of athletes. In our Bible verses today, Paul says in verse 8, “Training your body helps you in some ways. But devotion to God helps you in every way. It brings you blessings in this life and in the future, too.”
As Christians, we need to train ourselves in righteousness. This requires hard work and commitment. We can train ourselves through our Bible study, prayers, fellowship and worship. As we keep doing these things, we will become stronger Christians.
Work hard at training yourself today. Show others how to live for God. “Show them by what you say, by the way you live, by your love, by your faith, and by your pure life” (verse 12b).
