Treasures

Hong Kong seemed so far away. But, my husband’s job required us to move there. We knew that we would be living in a very small place in the crowded city of Hong Kong. So before we moved, we gave away many things. And we stored some of our belongings. The rest of the things we took with us. But when we returned home four years later, I couldn’t even remember what was in our storage unit. Why? Because I really didn’t need those things any more.
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus warned us to not save treasures for ourselves here on earth. He said that rust and moths can destroy these things. And, thieves can steal our treasures. Instead, Jesus said in verse 20, “So save your treasure in heaven. The treasures in heaven cannot be destroyed by moths or rust. And thieves cannot break in and steal that treasure.”
Today my husband and I try to live a simple life. We give away things that we don’t need. We are not concerned about having many fancy things in our home. Instead, we try to focus on serving God every day.
