Useful

The book of Philemon is a letter that Paul wrote to his friend, Philemon. In this letter Paul asked Philemon to take back his runaway slave, Onesimus. Paul told Philemon that Onesimus was very useful to him. In the Greek language, the name Onesimus means “useful.”
Onesimus ran away from Philemon. Then he met Paul, and he became a Christian. Onesimus helped Paul in his ministry. In verse 10b, Paul said, “He [Onesimus] became my son while I was in prison.” Paul wanted to keep Onesimus with him. But Paul was willing for Onesimus to return to Philemon. Paul even said that he would pay any debts Onesimus owed.
Onesimus was useful to Paul and Philemon because he became a Christian. He was also useful to God. We can be useful to God, too. Sometimes we do things wrong, and then we are not useful to God. But when we obey God and serve Him, we become useful.
God is happy when we are useful to Him. Look for ways today to serve God.
