Waiting for the Child

When my children were young, they looked forward to Christmas. As soon as they realized Christmas was coming soon, they would start to think about the cookies, the decorations and the presents. But I always reminded my children that we should look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus and remembering what God did for us.
Our Bible Reading today is about Simeon. “He was a good man who was devoted to God. He was waiting for the time when God would come to help Israel” (verse 25b). When Simeon saw baby Jesus at the temple, he was happy and praised God. Simeon knew that Jesus was the promised Messiah that the prophets had talked about.
Today we can be excited as we look forward to celebrating Christmas. But we can also look forward to the time when Jesus will come again. Thank God for Jesus and for the gift of eternal life!
