One year I went on vacation. When I came home, there were many weeds in my garden. I knew that I needed to pull the weeds and throw them away. Why? Because if the weeds continued to grow in my garden, they would steal the food and water that my vegetables needed to grow.
My life is like my garden. God has planted “seeds” in my life. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that these seeds are “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” But sometimes I have “weeds” in my life, too. These weeds can be hatred, impatience, selfishness, dishonesty and anger. I need to get rid of these weeds. Why? So that God’s good things can grow in my life.
What kinds of things are you growing in your life? Ask God to help you remove the weeds from your life. And ask Him to help you grow good things instead.
