Wonderful Father

Often these verses from Luke chapter 15 are called the “Parable of the Prodigal Son.” Most people remember that the younger son left his father and his home to live a sinful and wasteful life.
But I like to call these verses the “Parable of the Wonderful Father!” In these verses Jesus tells us about a father who gave his son what belonged to him (verse 12). This father faithfully watched and waited for his son to return (verse 20). This father was not angry with his son. Instead, he had compassion for his son. When the son returned, the father ran to meet the son. He hugged and kissed him (verse 20). This wonderful father was so happy to see his son again. He accepted his son back into the family (verses 22-24).
This parable shows us a beautiful picture of God and His love for each of us. Even when we sin and fall away from God, He still loves us. That is what every father should be like.
Today is Father’s Day in the United States. Take this opportunity to thank God for being the best father in the world!
