MAXIMIZING DEAF DISCIPLESHIP THROUGH GOD’S WORD
American Sign Language Bible Revision & Next-Generation Discipleship App
THE IMPACT OF THE ASL BIBLE
“There is a huge gap between God and many Deaf people—not because of Deafness, but because of communication. Access to Scripture in our primary language has been extremely limited. Many Deaf people are given a Bible, but the text inside it is written in a language they already struggle to understand. Seeing the Bible in sign language changes everything. It creates connection and opportunity. When I experience Scripture in ASL, I feel seen. I know that God understands me, and He wants me to understand Him. I remember a Deaf woman who approached me during one of our Community Checks. She clutched my arm and with tears streaming down her face she signed two simple phrases. ‘I finally understand! Thank you!’ That moment captures why this work matters!”
- Dr. Renca Dunn, a member of the translation team who completed the ASL Bible in 2020.
MULTIPLY DEAF DISCIPLES
We praise God for using Deaf Missions to complete the first-ever American Sign Language translation of the Bible in 2020. This milestone marked the culmination of 38 years of faithful work. For the first time in history, Deaf people could encounter the full story of the Bible in their own language. However, the work is not finished. The ASL Bible needs revision, and our app must continue to advance so Deaf believers can access God’s Word more clearly and easily in today’s digital world.
A Living Language
Languages grow and change. Updating the ASL Bible helps keep God’s Word clear and natural for Deaf believers today and for future generations.
Higher Video Quality
Early ASL Bible recordings were produced using analog technology. Today’s digital formats provide higher quality video.
Faithful to Scripture
Each book of the Bible is carefully reviewed to ensure clarity, consistency, and faithfulness to the original message.
Simple App Access
The ASL Bible will be available through an easy-to-use mobile app with simple navigation and a powerful search tool.
Encouraging Discipleship
The app will include tools that help Deaf believers engage with Scripture daily, study more deeply, and grow in their faith.
EXPANDING GOD’S WORD IN ASL
