ROAD TO KONA

OCTOBER 11, 2025

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

- 1 Corinthians 9:24

Competing in a triathlon takes more than strength. It requires endurance, strategy, mental focus, relentless perseverance, and FAITH in God.

Heather Suhr, Deaf Missions Business Manager, began training in 2022, which earned her a qualification spot for the Ironman World Championships in September 2024. In the past 9 months, she has been training intensively to prepare for this incredible challenge. On October 11th, she will compete in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii!

What inspires us even more is how she brings the same discipline and perseverance into our office every day. Her grit, organization, and dedication to keep Deaf Missions operating and competing in triathlons are something to admire.

Her favorite verse is 1 Corinthians 9:24:
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

This verse reminds her that self-discipline and staying committed to the path, whether it’s God or triathlon, is crucial. Through the highs and lows, she keeps her eyes fixed on the main goal, God, and the finish line.

We are so proud to have her on our team, and we can’t wait to share her journey!

We are thrilled to share that Heather Suhr crossed the finish line at the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona with a time of 11 hours and 37 minutes, placing 81st out of 235 in her age group and 488th overall out of 1,568 athletes. This places her in the top third of all competitors!

Those numbers represent far more than a finish. They reflect months of discipline, faith, and the mental resilience it takes to keep going when everything in you says stop.
